The Good Wife: Sometimes, there are some stories in life that touch the heart but also seem incomplete somewhere. Something similar has happened with the recently released Tamil web series ‘The Good Wife’. There was tremendous enthusiasm among the audience about this series, which streamed on JioHotstar on 4 July 2025. Actress Priyamani emerged as the biggest strength of the show, but sadly, the depth and emotional connection of the story were a bit lacking.
Priyamani’s acting stole hearts
In ‘The Good Wife’, Priyamani plays the role of a woman named ‘Tarunika’ who, despite being an ordinary housewife, returns to the world of advocacy due to her husband’s legal crisis. Priyamani’s acting was so strong and impressive that she cemented her place in the hearts of the audience. The pain hidden in her eyes, the strength reflected on her face and the self-respect visible in every scene are really commendable. She proved her art in courtroom scenes and emotional breakdowns.
The lack of depth in the story left the story feeling incomplete
While Priyamani gave her best, on the other hand, the audience felt that other actors like Sampath Raj and Aari Arjunan should have been given more importance. Their presence could have added more emotional depth to the story. Many viewers found the series predictable. It seemed that the ups and downs of the story were a bit unbalanced – in some episodes, things kept dragging while in some, everything was shown very hastily.
Weaknesses hidden in Revathi’s direction
‘The Good Wife’ has been directed by famous actress and filmmaker Revathi. She tried to show a woman’s inner struggle and legal battle with emotional depth, but somewhere she was not completely successful. The subtlety with which she could have presented the political and legal complexities was lacking. Perhaps this story could have been a little more solid for the Tamil audience.
The story of a woman’s struggle and identity
The soul of this series is the story of a woman who struggles between her family responsibilities and the professional world. ‘Tarunikaa’s’ struggle is the voice of every woman who wants to start life afresh, prove herself and rediscover her self-esteem. Her journey as a mother, wife, and lawyer is truly heart-touching. However, if the story had a little more pause and depth, this journey could have been even more memorable.
A glimpse of Priyamani’s life
Priyamani was born on 4 June 1984 in Bangalore. She graduated in Psychology and has also won many awards for her strong acting. She came into the limelight after winning the National Award for ‘Paruthiveeran’. Her personal life has also been full of struggles. In 2017, she married Mustafa Raj, who is of Muslim religion. Due to this, she was trolled many times on social media and faced many false allegations. But Priyamani always held on to her relationship and her faith strongly.
Revath,i A Strong Director and Artist
Revathi is a shining name in Indian cinema. She has not only acted brilliantly but has also made her mark in the field of direction. She made her directorial debut with a National Award-winning film like ‘Mitra – My Friend’ and now through ‘The Good Wife’, she is trying to make her mark on the OTT platform as well.
The Good Wife is a story that forces us to think that in times of difficulties in life, we should rediscover our lost identity. Priyamani’s excellent performance makes this web series worth watching, but if the story had a little more grip, it would have gone deeper into the hearts of Tamil audiences.
