BGMI: Gaming in India is no longer just a way to pass time, but it is a dream that millions of youth are living every day. This journey that started on the mobile screen is now ready to shine in the lights of the stadium. And to turn this dream into reality, Krafton, the maker of games like PUBG and BGMI, has announced the launch of an IPL-style esports league in India.
New era of esports in India
The gaming industry is currently in full swing in India. Today, there are more than 450 million active gamers in the country, and esports viewership has seen an increase of more than 400% in the last three years. These figures show that gaming is no longer just a hobby, but is becoming a profession. This move by Krafton is going to breathe new life into this rapidly growing industry in India. The company has prepared this league on the lines of IPL, in which every team will work as a franchise. That is, now in gaming also the teams will have their own owners, like in cricket.
Who can become a franchise owner
The most special thing about this league is that Krafton does not want to be limited to just corporate companies or big personalities. The company is inviting corporate houses, public figures, players, content creators, and even investors to be a part of this league.
If any institution or person wants to take a franchise in this league, then they will have to send their interest, i.e., Expression of Interest (EOI), to Krafton by July 4, 2025. After this, Krafton will provide them all the necessary documents, a Letter of Intent, and complete information related to bidding.
Krafton’s growing trust and investment in India
This move by Krafton is not sudden. For some time now, the company has been strengthening its presence in India. The company’s CEO, Changhan “CH” Kim, also recently said that Krafton is preparing to increase its investment in India from $170 million to $310 million.
Krafton is not only localizing its global games but is also showing interest in promoting local talent in India, developing its own games, and bringing forward local content creators. BGMI tournaments like BGIS (Battlegrounds India Series) and BMPS (Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series) have already become a huge success in India. These events not only gave the players a platform but also gave them a professional identity.
Now it is not gaming, it is a career and identity
Through this IPL-style esports league, Krafton wants to provide a platform where gaming is not just seen as a ‘timepass’ but as a respectable career. The youth of India who show their skills in BGMI day and night are now going to get such an identity that can make them shine at the national and international level. This dream of Krafton is not only of the company but of all those youth who want to do something big in gaming. This league is not only for the players but also for the brands and investors who want to make their place in the gaming industry.
The real stage of gaming is now in India
The land of India is now going to be not just a cricket field but also a real battlefield of gaming. It is clear from this new league of Krafton that now gaming will be seen at the same professional level as other traditional sports.
